Prayer  Based on Proverbs Chapter 1

Thank you Lord for Solomon, David’s Son, King of Israel.

Teach me the ability to see things the way you see them.
Help me stand underneath those insights until I see them come to fruition.
Allow my mind to be taught.
Help me behave in keeping with new instruction.
Help me do right, love justice and be fair to all people.

Help me to be simpleminded and clever.  Help me share knowledge and purpose with young men.

Help me listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.
Help me understand how to receive guidance.
Allow me to meditate on the depth of meaning in these proverbs, parables, wise sayings, and riddles. Help me turn them over and over in my mind.

 Help me memorize
“The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Only fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
Help me meditate on these words.

Help my children listen to their parents.
Help me remember what my parents tried to teach me.

Let me wear what I learned from them like a crown on my head and a royal robe on my back.

When wicked people tempt me, help me say no, turn away and run!  Let me be dead to their invitation to come and join them, hide and kill and ambush the innocent.

Swallow the wicked up O lord.
Let the grave receive them.
Strike them down in the prime of life.
Help them know that hell is their destiny unless they repent.

Help me not to fill my house with all kinds of things!

Help me never trust their deals of a 50/50 split.

Don’t even let me start to make friends with wicked people.
Help me stay away from the places the like to go.

When they rush to commit evil – murder and crimes, help me be reminded of their destiny.

Help me see the trap that is set for evil.

Help me stay far away!

Remind me that the wicked cannot see their trap, or that they are ambushing their own lives.

Teach me the fate of greediness.  Help me see that greed can rob me of my very life.

God’s way is always very obvious if I am willing to see it. In fact it is often announced from the public square.

Help me hear the voice of wisdom that cries out from the crowds on main street, even from city hall.

“Wisdom calls me a simpleton!”. “How long will I go on being simpleminded? How long will mockers relish my mocking? How long will fight the facts like a fool?

I come to you.  I listen to you! Pour out the spirit of wisdom upon me and make you wise.

This is how I think sometimes.

“I called you so often. You didn’t come. I reached out to you, You pay no attention.

I ignored your advice.  I rejected the correction you offer.

I hear you laugh when I am in trouble! I tend to mock you when disaster overtakes me—

When calamity overcomes me like a storm, when I am engulfed by trouble, and when anguish and distress overwhelm me.

“I ask why do you not answer when I cry for help?  Even though I anxiously search for you, I cannot find you.

When I have hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord. I reject your advice.

I pay no attention when you corrected me.

That is why I’ve had to eat the bitter fruit of living my own way.
I experience the full terror of the path I have chosen.
I have acted like a simpleton who turns away from you —to death. I sometimes act like a fool, and my own complacency destroys me.

Today, I am going to listen to you.  I will live in peace and safety, unafraid of harm.
