--October 18, 2009 Custer City Church invited Dr. Ben Smith to become their Pastor. Smith was recently Transitional Pastor of Southmont Baptist Church, Denton, and Harwood Terrace Baptist Church in Bedford. Dr. Smith served for 32 years as Senior Pastor of Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas. He retired in January 2007. Now he will be pastoring a church the size of his first church: Mt Pleasant Baptist Church, Gloster, Mississippi. Custer City is about the size of Lakeland when Smith became their Pastor, December 9, 1974. Dr. Smith has served as adjunct professor of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He has been active in North Texas Baptist Area, Denton Baptist Association, and the Southern Baptist Covention. Ben and Jean have three children: Rene', Jeff, and Jennifer. They have 7 grandchildren, Rachael, Randall, Philip, Colton, Nathan, Lauren, and Ryan. The Smith's live in Corinth, Texas. Ben's primary focus will be Sunday services, and developing teams to grow the church and reach the Lost. Ben sees the purpose of Custer City as connecting incividuals with God, connecting with other believers, and connecting with the lost He believes "all men seek Jesus". Individuals desire healthy relationships with each other. Christians desire to share Christ's love with those who do not have a personal relationship with Him. Dr. Smith especially wants God to restore the joy of salvation to every believer. . "Luke 15 is the Lost and Found Column of the New Testament. The sheep was helplessly lost. The Coin was worthlessly lost. The Son was hopelessly lost. The elder brother was lost to joy. This portrays a strategy for the local church. We are commanded to go into the world and make disciples, and teach all nations whatsoever Christ has commanded us, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." |
