The Gathering

March 5th, 2010

Some would gather money along the path of life;
Some would gather roses and rest from worldly strife.

But I would gather children from the thorns of worldly life,
I would seek a golden curl and a freckled, toothless grin.
For money cannot enter in that land of endless day;
And the roses that are gathered –soon will wilt along the way.

But Oh! The laughing children as they cross the sunset sea;
When the gates swing wide to Heaven,
may they follow after Me.

“Elections Determine the Fate of a Nation!”

February 24th, 2010

Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote!

If we choose poorly, the consequences will echo through the next 50 years of history. We are a nation that tamed a frontier, stood down the Nazis and stood upon the moon.

Are we unwilling to tackle difficult challenges, preferring caution to boldness, embracing the mediocrity that has characterized other civilizations. America has always been a nation that rises to the demands of history regardless of the costs or appeal. If we turn away from that legacy, we turn away from who we are.

Terrorist believe you can defeat America in the newsroom. They learned that a wounded America can become a defeated America. Twenty-four-hour news stations and daily tracking polls will do the heavy lifting, turning a cut into a fatal blow. Terrorists believe that a steady stream of grizzly photos for 24-hour-news -stations is all you need to break the will of the American people. Our own self-doubt will take it from there.

It is said that America’s W.W.II generation is its ‘greatest generation.’ But my greatest fear is that it will become known as America’s ‘last generation.’ Born in the bleakness of the Great Depression and hardened in the fire of WW II, they may be the last American generation that understands the meaning of duty, honor and sacrifice.

Too many citizens today mistake ‘living in America’ as ‘being an American.’ But America has always been more of an idea than a place. When you sign on, you do more than buy real estate. You accept a set of values and responsibilities.

About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels

December 8th, 2009

It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a ‘ Holiday ‘.
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-Pod

Something was changing, something quite odd!

Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe’s the word Christmas - was nowhere to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears
You won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me?

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say

Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday!

A PRAYER FOR ISLAMIST

November 6th, 2009

Genesis 16:1-15

(Prayer based on The Message, by Eugene Peterson

Genesis 16:1-2  Sarai, Abram’s wife, hadn’t yet produced a child. She had an Egyptian maid named Hagar. [2] Sarai said to Abram, “God has not seen fit to let me have a child. Sleep with my maid. Maybe I can get a family from her.” Abram agreed to do what Sarai said.

Pray:  Father, I acknowledge the unbelief of Sarai and her recommendation that Abram sleep with Hagar.

Genesis 16:3  So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took her Egyptian maid Hagar and gave her to her husband Abram as a wife. Abram had been living ten years in Canaan when this took place.

Pray:  I acknowledge the result of Sarai’s unbelief in offering her maid to Abram, and Abram’s liability for sleeping with her and not believing God.

Genesis 16:4  He slept with Hagar and she got pregnant. When she learned she was pregnant, she looked down on her mistress.

Pray:  The seeds of disobedience produced a son, and created a heart of resentfulness in Hagar.

Genesis 16:7 An angel of God found her beside a spring in the desert; it was the spring on the road to Shur.

Pray:  Praise you O God for not forsaking Hagar in her disobedience, resentment and rebellion, rather You pursued her.

Genesis 16:8  He said, “Hagar, maid of Sarai, what are you doing here?” She said, “I’m running away from Sarai my mistress.”

Pray:  You, O God, wanted Hagar to tell you why she was where she was and what she was doing.

Genesis 16:9  The angel of God said, “Go back to your mistress. Put up with her abuse.”

Pray:  You commanded Hagar to return to Sarai, and submit to her, even though you knew she was being abused.

Genesis 16:10  He continued, “I’m going to give you a big family, children past counting.”

Pray:  Praise you O God for a plan for Hagar’s life, her son and his descendants. Even in her disobedience you began to work your redemptive story.

Genesis 16:11   From this pregnancy, you’ll get a son: Name him Ishmael; for God heard you, God answered you.

Pray:  Hagar cried out to you. You heard her. May her descendants cry out to You. Hear them O God. Consider their afflictions. Remove their hatred for their own kindred. Return them to the God of their Mother. May those who hear you cry out to their kindred to call upon the God of their Mother. Your name is Elohim. Answer their prayers.

Genesis 16:12   “He’ll be a bucking bronco of a man, a real fighter, fighting and being fought, Always stirring up trouble, always at odds with his family.”

Pray: Help the sons and daughters of Hagar to know that they are created in your image, beautiful daughters, and robust, fighting men. Help them see that they are fighting out of their own selfish nature, and not out of the love that you have given them and their Mother.

Genesis 16:13  She answered God by name, praying to the God who spoke to her, “You’re the God who sees me!” “Yes! He saw me; and then I saw him!”

Pray: Remind the sons and daughters of Hagar that their Mother saw and spoke with the One True God, (not Allah) She heard Him speak to her, and acknowledged that He saw her and She saw Him.

Genesis 16:14  That’s how that desert spring got named “God-Alive-Sees-Me Spring.” That spring is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

Pray:  Dear Heavenly Father, please bring the sons and daughters of Hagar to the God-Alive-Sees-Me Spring and give them PEACE, and turn their hearts to Jehovah, and bring Peace to all their ethnic groups.

Genesis 16:15 Hagar gave Abram a son. Abram named him Ishmael.

Pray:  O God of Hagar, God of Abram, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, Son of God, Lord Jesus Christ, once again in great awakening and renewal hear the cry of Hagar’s Sons and Daughters. Bring all who will call upon you to See You and experience the RIVER of LIVING WATER IN THEIR SOULS – to the astonishment of the Nations of the Earth and the Glory of God Almighty.

7 UP

October 17th, 2009

1. Wake Up!!   Decide to have a good day. ‘Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.’ Psalms 118:24

2. Dress Up!!   The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. ‘The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance; but the Lord looks at the heart.’ I Samuel 16:7

3. Shut Up!!   Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. ‘He who guards his lips guards his soul.’
Proverbs 13:3

4. Stand Up!!…For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything.. ‘Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good…’ Galatians 6:9-10

5. Look Up!!…  To the Lord.  ‘I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.’ Phillippians 4:13

6. Reach Up!!… For something higher. ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, And He will direct your path.’ Proverbs 3:5-6

7. Lift Up!!… Your Prayers.
‘Do not worry about anything; instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING.’ Philippians 4:6

Prayer based on Psalm 63:1-11

October 2nd, 2009

Jesus, You are loved. I want to seek you first before the day begins. I am hungrier for you than I am for breakfast –or food for the day.

I long to see your power like when you saved me. Help me forgive my dad, called me to ministry, met my financial needs in school, delivered me from certain failure as a minister –gave me a friend.

You are better than this life. I praise you verbally – out loud. You are blessed. Here are my hands –lifted up to you in praise, exposed to you for service. I am satisfied.

When I think what you’ve done, where I have come from, the times You met me – I love to wake up, just to spend time with You. Over the years you’ve turned my loneliness into solitude. I follow you easier today than ever before—
So – I fear for those who stand against Your power. My enemies are your enemies. May your enemies be my enemies. Seal the lips of the liar.

I feel good about the time I spend with you. I pray for your glory to be exposed.

Positive Imagineering

August 27th, 2009

ATTITUDE

My attitude is all-important. I must have a positive attitude in all my endeavors. That is the one thing I alone determine.
I must learn to insulate myself from all negative thoughts.
I must think positively in all things. I must be alert, energetic, and determined.

ACCEPT

In building a positive outlook, I must accept things as they are. I must accept myself as I am. I must take a positive attitude toward myself, my abilities, and my efforts.

I am learning to love and respect myself. I will learn to love and respect myself. I am learning to recognize my strengths and to see myself as attractive.

I will begin to stand tall and erect and to walk with energy and pride. I am learning to have confidence in myself. I am learning to accept and love myself.

I am learning to accept the world and other people as they are. I will be undaunted by things I cannot change.
I am determined to succeed and to make my way in the world.

I recognize that my way must lie in the realm of worthy goals. In learning to accept things as they are,

I see that I must work to understand why things are as they are. I will seek to attain the deeper acceptance of things that can’t be understood. I will enjoy today while today is mine.

ADMIT

Having accepted myself, I will admit my weaknesses and my needs. I will examine my personal habits and my appearance to discover what I need to improve.

I am determined to maintain a proper diet. I will get adequate exercise, and to rest well.

I will study my relationships with other people to determine weaknesses that need to be faced. I will learn to be considerate of others when I speak, I will listen attentively, I will be patient, thoughtful, and loving. I will learn to temper my pride with humility. I will practice honesty and friendliness.

I will be diligent and dependable. I will not allow myself to be ruled by emotions. I admit my fear, anger, and anxiety.
I will admit my resentments, worries and frustrations, and learn to turn them into positive forces.

I will train my mind to tap its deepest resources and to allow its creativity to emerge. I will forget things I need to forget. I will be considerate of others. I will be forgiving.

I will increase my knowledge by taking lessons and observing others who are achievers. I will ask questions of those who can help me and listen closely to their teachings. I will continually practice and test those skills which I need.

I will submit to, and respect, authority. I will determine to overcome problems and weaknesses. I am convinced I can do so.

I am becoming the person I imagine myself to be. I am healthy, happy, and succeeding.

ANTICIPATE

Having admitted my needs and having resolved to overcome them, I will anticipate success; establish goals for self-improvement and achievement. I will establish educational, financial, spiritual, and physical goals which will give me a balanced life. I will visualize these goals by writing them down on paper.

I will anticipate success in all these areas. I will anticipate success in my daily outlook. I will make plans for each day and attempt to accomplish those plans. I will imagine myself successfully carrying out my plans, allowing my subconscious mind to build on my suggestions even while I sleep.

I will anticipate success by arising energetically and enthusiastically to enact the opportunities of the new day. I will not allow my emotions to keep me from being successful.

I will develop a mental picture of the person I want to become. I will meditate about that person. I will see myself in good health – slim, trim, attractive, personable. I will picture myself as one in control of his emotional and intellectual life, in control of his personal, social, and business life. I will picture myself in a state of continual improvement – unafraid to learn new skills, courageous enough to discard bad habits and to develop good ones.

I will imagine myself enjoying the success I desire. I am happy, healthy, energetic, creative, thoughtful, and enthusiastic.

Yes, I am becoming successful.

ADAPT

Next, I determine to adapt to situations. Even though I have made definite plans, I will be open to new possibilities. I will alter my plans to take advantage of new opportunities. I will continually evaluate my efforts to improve myself and evaluate goals I have set.

I will not retreat, but rather move in new directions if that will help. I will not be stopped by failures. I will eliminate worry, accept difficulties, and forge new plans. I will learn how to cope with adversities.

I will allow my subconscious mind to help me find new solutions to problems. I will accept the challenge of adapting at all times. I will determine never to feel pushed into a corner. I will have the courage to face the problem. I will see problems as opportunities.

ACT

In order to carry out my goals to their conclusion, I will be willing to act. I will have the faith and courage to act on the plans I have made. I will be courageous enough to move into new fields, to seize new opportunities. I will learn to decide and act quickly. I will be certain enough of myself to take the role of leader. I will act with confidence, pride, and assurance. At the same time I will be open to new possibilities.

ACKNOWLEDGE

Finally, I acknowledge that I cannot succeed without help outside myself. I will ask God for the help I need. I will read the Bible, God’s Word, for principles and conduct for my life. I will ask Him, in prayer, to direct and control my destiny.

I will cultivate love and respect in my dealings with others. I will learn to listen to others. I will learn when to speak and what to say. I will be sensitive to others to know when they want my advice.

I will be thoughtful in conversation. I will turn interest from myself to others by shoring interest in them. I will respect individual differences in people. I will help others. I will allow them to help me. I will reward others even when no reward is due.

I will learn to graciously accept gifts and help from those who enjoy giving of themselves. I know I cannot succeed alone. I will admire and appreciate others. I am grateful and thankful to all who help. I will gladly share the fruit of my success with those who have helped me. I will give to worthy causes. I will learn to love and appreciate others.

I will read books to find the help I need. I will enjoy reading. I will read books which relate to my goals. I will write down the most important ideas I glean from my reading.

In doing all these things, I know I will be becoming a more successful person. I will have the courage to be myself, or to change myself to meet the challenges and opportunities, and I will continually set goals for myself.

I will be open to my own creativity as I act to achieve my goals. I will acknowledge the help of others as I succeed. I acknowledge that I am wise, healthy, happy, worthy, and enthusiastic.

These powerful affirmations will help you become a success in the endeavors that you have chosen and will choose in the future. Congratulations to what you are going to achieve in the future through Positive Imagineering.

When people fear government there is slavery.

August 14th, 2009

When  Government fears people there is Freedom!

Genesis 47:13-27

(The Message, Eugene Peterson)

The time eventually came when there was no food anywhere. The famine was very bad. Egypt and Canaan alike were devastated by the famine. [14] Joseph collected all the money that was to be found in Egypt and Canaan to pay for the distribution of food. He banked the money in Pharaoh’s palace. [15] When the money from Egypt and Canaan had run out, the Egyptians came to Joseph. “Food! Give us food! Are you going to watch us die right in front of you? The money is all gone.”

[16] Joseph said, “Bring your livestock. I’ll trade you food for livestock since your money’s run out.” [17] So they brought Joseph their livestock. He traded them food for their horses, sheep, cattle, and donkeys. He got them through that year in exchange for all their livestock.

[18] When that year was over, the next year rolled around and they were back, saying, “Master, it’s no secret to you that we’re broke: our money’s gone and we’ve traded you all our livestock. We’ve nothing left to barter with but our bodies and our farms. [19] What use are our bodies and our land if we stand here and starve to death right in front of you? Trade us food for our bodies and our land. We’ll be slaves to Pharaoh and give up our land—all we ask is seed for survival, just enough to live on and keep the farms alive.”

[20] So Joseph bought up all the farms in Egypt for Pharaoh. Every Egyptian sold his land—the famine was that bad. That’s how Pharaoh ended up owning all the land [21] and the people ended up slaves; Joseph reduced the people to slavery from one end of Egypt to the other.

[22] Joseph made an exception for the priests. He didn’t buy their land because they received a fixed salary from Pharaoh and were able to live off of that salary. So they didn’t need to sell their land.

[23] Joseph then announced to the people: “Here’s how things stand: I’ve bought you and your land for Pharaoh. In exchange I’m giving you seed so you can plant the ground. [24] When the crops are harvested, you must give a fifth to Pharaoh and keep four-fifths for yourselves, for seed for yourselves and your families—you’re going to be able to feed your children!”

[25] They said, “You’ve saved our lives! Master, we’re grateful and glad to be slaves to Pharaoh.”

[26] Joseph decreed a land law in Egypt that is still in effect, A Fifth Goes to Pharaoh. Only the priests’ lands were not owned by Pharaoh.

[27] And so Israel settled down in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property and flourished. They became a large company of people.

Economic hard times fell upon Egypt. The people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built.

The people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

When they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock - their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey - to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year.

But the famine wasn’t over, was it?

So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives.

“There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh.”

So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh’s government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.

What is the Biblical Lesson

Turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery?

That’s the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?

Examine the passage closely!

“Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen. And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly.”

God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn’t end up giving all their possessions to the government, no, it says they gained possessions!

Is government once again asking us to share our wealth? Are we being asked to give and money and let government determine how it is distributed?

Does the government want to control healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind.

Is our destiny under the present circumstance any different than the people of Egypt four thousand years ago ? Will we become slaves to the government and slaves to our leaders ?

Is what government doing now is any different from what Pharaoh’s government did then> Will it will end the same.

Is government the “Messiah,”? A Savior? Didn’t the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, “You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh”?

Let us Pray!

Lord, we know that You are worthy to be served. We rely on You. We rely on You alone.

The government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be.

In the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, he warned the people of what a ruler would do.

“And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.”

Has our day  come?

We must choose God or Government.

Lord, we pray for America.
We pray for revival.
We pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters.

Give us hearts to seek You.
Give us hands to serve You.
Protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh’s government.

In God we Trust!
